Wednesday Oklahoma State Football Practice Report
March 12, 2008 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER, Okla.  The Oklahoma State football team practiced in full pads Wednesday afternoon under a clear sky on the practice field adjacent to Gallagher-Iba Arena. Coach Mike Gundy met with members of the media following the 2 ½ hour practice session. Following are some of the highlights of what Gundy had to say:
Regarding his impressions at this early juncture of spring practice:
“I feel good. We're getting good competition. The defense has been physical and I've been impressed by the down guys. Quencey Patrick. Junior Tea is looking better. He's 30 pounds lighter so that's how it should be. Ugo Chinasa, Richetti Jones and Swanson Miller have all shown up in drills.”
Regarding Lucien Antoine:
“Lucien has been doing well for where we are right now. It's a security blanket being out here in practice, but I've been really impressed with the things he does on and off the field. He has stayed on a straight line and has never shown up on a list. He works hard and has a good attitude. He's made some nice hits and seems to be in good position. He shows up in drills.”
Regarding live tackling during spring practice:
“If you hit every day, by practices 10 to 15, you're playing with guys who aren't going to play, so it doesn't do you a lot of good.”
Regarding Brandon Weeden and Alex Cate:
“Cate is ahead of Weeden right now. Brandon's head is spinning a little bit with the offense and Cate has been around longer.”
Regarding what he wants to see during Friday's practice and brief scrimmage:
“We're looking for blocking, tackling and the defense being in the right position, just basic football. We aren't trying to trick anyone with reverses or anything like that.”
The Cowboys are back in action when they host an open practice at 1:30 p.m. Friday. The practice will include a brief scrimmage scheduled to begin 3 p.m. It will be the final practice before OSU steps away briefly for spring break.
