Cowgirls 11th After Day One At Big 12 Championships

LINCOLN, Neb. – With Friday's day one action at the 2008 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Nebraska in the books, the Oklahoma State women are 11th with eight points. OSU got its points from the Distance Medley Relay team of Eva Tomankova, Irene Masai, Teran Mixon and Mihaela Susa, who placed fourth with an 11:36.64 and Tone Hjalmarsen, who placed sixth in the 5000 meters with a 16:54.81.
Starting the day for OSU was senior Tihana Sarac in the indoor Pentathlon. Sarac racked up a total of 3476 points to finish ninth. In the mile run, Tomankova finished in ninth place with a time of 4:54.74. Hjalmarsen got the Cowgirls on the board by scoring three points in the 5000 meters by finishing sixth in 16:54.81. In the 60 meter dash Cowgirl senior Lauren McKee finished 21st with a time of 7.89, in 23rd place was senior Fey Bashorun with a time of 8.04 and Tekeisha Lewis finished 24th with a time of 8.23.
Freshman Irene Masai finished ninth in the 600 yard run with a time of 1:25.01. Freshman Teran Mixon in the 1000 meter run was 13th with a time of 2:58.43. In the long jump, sophomore Baiba Blumbaha leaped 5.42 meters to finish in 15th place. Freshman Brandi Andrews was 11th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.58. In the 200 meter dash, senior Lauren McKee finished 19th with a time of 25.21 and senior Fey Bashorun was 26th in 26.27.
Senior Deleanor Kirkpatrick took ninth in the weight throw with a toss of 18.14 meters and in 16th place was sophomore Julie Rader with a throw of 15.46 meters. To end the day the Cowgirls Distance Medley Relay team scored five points by finishing fourth place in 11:36.64.
