Kirkpatrick takes first place in weight throw

Sooner Invite
The Oklahoma State University Cowgirl track and field team wrapped up the Sooner invite with top performances from a trio of Cowgirls. Sophomore Natalia Kovtun places first in the 1,000 meter with a time of 2:59.03 and senior Deleanor Kirkpatrick in the weight throw with a launch of 18.51 meters. Rivals University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University recruited freshman Teran Mixon a former high school standout. Mixon gladly chose to wear orange and showed the crimson and cream what to expect for years to come with a 5:12.59 minute mile.
Other Cowgirls with top performances were senior LaKendra Greathouse in the shot put throwing 14.67 meters, senior Lauren McKee in the 200 meter placed third with a time of 26.45, junior Merritt Dietz finishes third behind Greathouse with a throw of 14.39 and Alina Istrate placing third in the mile crossing the line at 3:08.88. The Cowgirls also tacked on eight personal best from this weekend's event.

“She has been trying to break 18 meters the last two years,” head coach Rene Sepulveda said. “She finally broke 18 meters, she threw 18.51 but also three of her throws were over 18 meters.”
