Cowboy Golfers Open Spring Season In Puerto Rico

Oklahoma State's men's golf team will play its first event of the spring season this weekend when it takes part in the Puerto Rico Classic.
The 54-hole event features 15 teams and will take place at the par-72, 6,902-yard Rio Mar Country Club's River Course. Competition will get underway on Friday at 7 a.m. (EST) with 18 holes being contested on Saturday and Sunday as well.
The fourth-ranked Cowboys enter the tournament with the nation's top-ranked player in Rickie Fowler. The Murrieta, Calif., native has finished in the top four in each of his three career starts, including his victory at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational last fall.
Joining Fowler in the lineup will be junior Trent Leon, who posted a top 10 in his last start at the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate.
A trio of newcomers in freshmen Mark Johnson and Kevin Tway as well as junior transfer Jon McLean will also be in the starting lineup.
OSU is coming off a strong fall that saw it claim the team title at the Olympia Fields Invitational and post a runner-up finish at the Ping/Golfweek Preview.
The Cowboys finished sixth at last year's Puerto Rico Classic and posted their lone victory at the event in 2003.
