Blomkvist, Schroeder, Istrate have big day for Cowgirls
Joplin, Mo. Â Members of the Oklahoma State women's track and field team won three events during Friday's day one action at the Missouri Southern Invitational.
With a jump of 5.94 meters in the long jump, sophomore Baiba Blumbaha was one of three Cowgirls to place in the top five in the event. Following Blumbaha were Tihana Sarac (second place; 5.79 meters) and Mateja Posavec (fifth place; 5.46 meters). OSU also placed three of its runners in the top five of the 3000-meters with Kim Blomkvist (first place with a time of 10:29.16), Leah Schroeder (third place; 10:39.14) and Alina Istrate (fifth place; 10:48.06) leading the way. On the day, members of the OSU team set 11 new season bests.
In addition to the Cowgirls' success in the 3000 meters and in the long jump, OSU's distance medley relay team placed first in 12:16.50.
Day two continues on Saturday, Feb 16 at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center in Joplin, Mo. The competition will start at 10:30 a.m. with the triple jump featuring Cowgirls Baiba Blumbaha, Mateja Posavec and Clarissa Andrews.
