Cowgirls finish strong at J.D. Martin Invite

NORMAN, Okla. Â Members of the Oklahoma State women's track team combined to set 24 personal bests this weekend at the J.D. Martin Invitational hosted by the University of Oklahoma at the Mosier Indoor facility.
A trio of Cowgirls finished in the top five in the 1000-meter run. Senior Eva Tomankova took the third spot with a time of 2:57.39, McKale Davis finished in fourth place clocking in at 3:07.36 and Tone Hjalmarsen finishing in fifth place with a time of 3:11.04.
LaKendra Greathouse took second in the shot put with a toss of 15.00 meters. Junior Merritt Dietz finished in fifth place with a throw of 13.51 meters, senior Alina Roman took sixth place with a 13.45 meters and senior Tihana Sarac finishing in 12th place with a throw of 11.28 meters
“Real solid performance, they both had PR's, just a real good weekend,” throwing coach John Baumann said. “I think LaKendra had another solid weekend, she's put three weekends together now to where she was 14.90 and 15.00 meter, so I think she is ready to hit another big throw, hopefully in a couple of weeks we'll do that at Iowa State.”
In the women's triple jump sophomore Baiba Blumbaha jumped for a distance of 12.06 meters, sophomore Mateja Posavec finished in seventh place with a leap of 11.89 meters and freshman Clarissa Andrews finished in eighth place with a jump of 11.88 meters.
McKale Davis finished second in the mile with a time of 5:08.86, sophomore Tone Hjalmarsen finished in fourth place at a time of 5:10.68 and senior Kim Blomkvist took eighth place with a time of 5:25.58.
In the women's weight throw, Cowgirl senior Deleanor Kirkpatrick grabbed the top spot throwing 17.78 meters and sophomore Julie Rader finishes in seventh place with a throw of 14.78 meters.
Competing in the 200-meter dash were senior Lauren McKee, who finished 12th with a time of 25.98, freshman Jazmine Harp, who took 23rd place with a 27.35 and freshman Kim Johnson, who was 25th in 28.26
In the women's 600-yard run freshman Irene Masai was eighth with a time of 1:26.42, freshman Brandi Andrews was 12th place with a time of 1:26.96, freshman Teran Mixon finished in 17th place by clocking in at 1:29.45 and senior Eva Tomankova crossed the finish line in 19th place with a time of 1:31.25
In the next five events; the women's long jump, 3000-meter seeded run, 3000-meter open run, 60-meter hurdles and the high jump featured only five Cowgirls, one in each of five events. In the long jump sophomore Baiba Blumbaha finished ninth place while getting air for 5.31 meters. Cowgirl Alina Istrate ran a 11:01.26 in the 3000 meters. Senior Tihana Sarac placed 10th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.40. In the high jump sophomore Destyn Stallings finished third with a jump of 1.55 meters. Sophomore Leah Schroeder finished fourth with a time of 10:55.13 in the 3000 meters.
Next up for the Cowgirls will be a trip to South Bend, Ind., to compete in the Meyo Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame at the Loftus Center on Feb. 8, 2008
