Cowboy Football Accepts Pacific Life Holiday Bowl Bid

STILLWATER, Okla. Â Oklahoma State will be making its sixth bowl appearance in the last seven years after accepting an invitation to the 2008 Pacific Life Holiday Bowl, the bowl's selection committee announced today. Fans can purchase tickets for the 2008 Holiday Bowl online at www.okstate.com.
The Cowboys will battle Oregon in the 31st annual Holiday Bowl matchup on Dec. 30. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. (CST) from Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego and will be televised live by ESPN.
OSU will enter the game with a 9-3 record and look to tie a school record with their 10th win of the season. The Cowboys have won two-straight bowl games, topping Alabama, 34-31, in the 2006 Independence Bowl and besting Indiana by a 49-33 margin in last year's Insight Bowl.
The meeting will be OSU's first-ever against Oregon. Members of the Pac-10 Conference, the Ducks also bring a 9-3 mark into the game. They finished in second place in the Pac-10 standings with a 7-2 record in league play.
OSU's appearance will mark its 19th all-time bowl appearance. The Cowboys are 12-6 in postseason bowls, with its .667 winning percentage in bowl play topping the Big 12 Conference.
The Holiday Bowl appearance also marks the second in OSU's history. The Cowboys trounced Wyoming in the 1988 Holiday Bowl as Barry Sanders racked up 222 rushing yards and five touchdowns to lead OSU to a 62-14 win.
OSU head coach Mike Gundy quarterbacked the Cowboys in the 1988 Holiday Bowl and will become the first person to ever participate in the game as both a player and head coach. Gundy completed 20-of-24 passes for 315 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the 1988 contest.
