Cowgirls Earn No. 13 National Ranking In Final Polls

STILLWATER, Okla. — The Oklahoma State Cowgirl soccer team had a record-setting season in 2008, and the Cowgirls have added another accolade as they garnered a No. 13 ranking in the final national polls of three outlets.
OSU is ranked 13th in the final 2008 NSCAA/adidas, Soccer Buzz and SoccerTimes.com polls. The Cowgirls highest-ever final ranking came in 2006 when they were ranked No. 12 by Soccer Buzz. The No. 13 ranking is their highest-ever in the final NSCAA/adidas poll.
“To be ranked in the top 15 in the final polls is a nice honor and shows the level of respect people have for our program,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. “We've become a consistent top 25 program the last three years, and now we want to take the next step and become a top 10 program.
“We've been in the top 10 some during the last two regular seasons, and we want to continue to build so we can be there at the end too.”
OSU finished the 2008 season with an 18-1-4 record, with the 18 wins marking the most in school history. The Cowgirls also won their first-ever Big 12 Conference regular season championship with a 7-1-2 mark in league play.
The Cowgirls, who ranked sixth nationally with an .870 winning percentage, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Soccer Championship for the third consecutive season. Along the way, OSU climbed to as high as No. 7 in the national polls, which tied their highest-ever ranking.
