Postgame Notes vs. Texas Tech
November 09, 2008 | Cowboy Football
* Game captains for Oklahoma State Saturday were LB Orie Lemon, WR Dez Bryant, P Matt Fodge and PK Dan Bailey.
* The Cowboys forced the Red Raiders into a turnover on their opening drive of the game when LB Patrick Lavine recovered a Graham Harrell fumble. OSU cashed in three plays later when Kendall Hunter punched in a two-yard touchdown run. Successful opening sequences have been a theme for the Cowboys this year, as OSU has held its opponents scoreless on their opening drive in nine of 10 games this year and the Cowboys have scored on their game-opening drive in seven of 10 games this year.
* During Oklahoma State's opening drive, Kendall Hunter broke a 26-yard run, which was his 12th run of 20 yards or more this season. He added a second 26-yard run in the second quarter.
* Hunter finished the game with 112 yards rushing, marking his eighth 100-yard rushing game this year and the 10th 100-yard rushing game of his career. He is the first opposing player to rush for more than 100 yards against the Red Raiders this year.
* Texas Tech entered Saturday's game ranked 10th nationally in rush defense, limiting its opponents to 98.7 rushing yards per game. The Cowboys ran for 186 yards against the Red Raiders.
* Matt Fodge booted a 71-yard punt in the first quarter. That blast was a season high, but was one yard short of his career-high 72-yard punt against Missouri State in 2006.
* Saturday's game marked only the second time this season that Oklahoma State trailed at the end of the first period. The Cowboys trailed Texas, 7-0 after the first period.
* Texas Tech held a 28-14 halftime lead, marking the most points allowed by the Cowboys in any half of play this season. It also marked the third time this year that OSU trailed at the half. The Cowboys picked up wins over Houston and Missouri when trailing at the half, but lost to Texas when facing a halftime deficit.
* Brandon Pettigrew moved into Oklahoma State's career top-10 in pass receptions Saturday. He entered the game ranked 13th all-time at OSU with 91 career receptions and added seven receptions against the Red Raiders to up his career total to 98. That figure stands as the eighth-highest total in OSU history.
* Kendall Hunter moved to 11th place on Oklahoma State's single-season rushing list Saturday by increasing his season rushing total to 1,332 yards. In doing so, he leaped past Dantrell Savage's 2007 total of 1,272 yards and Tatum Bell's 2003 total of 1,286 yards. Both Savage and Bell went on to careers in the NFL.
* Keith Toston capped a 12 play, 80 yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run with 4:13 left in the second quarter. The drive was the Cowboys' longest-lasting touchdown drive of the year, using up 6:43 of game time.
* Texas Tech's 56 points Saturday were the most allowed by Oklahoma State since the Cowboys surrendered 62 points vs. Texas A&M in 2005
* Saturday's game marked the Cowboys' third consecutive road game against a team ranked in the top three nationally in the Associated Press poll. Oklahoma State knocked off No. 3 Missouri in Columbia on Oct. 11 and narrowly missed out on toppling No. 1 Texas in Austin on Oct. 25 before Saturday's game in Lubbock vs. No. 2 Texas Tech.
