Cowboys Dominate Langston, 113-65
November 09, 2008 | Cowboy Basketball
Sophomore post player Ibrahima Thomas recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Cowboys in just 13 minutes of play. Fellow sophomore Malcoln Kirkland, a transfer from Arkansas-Fort Smith, added 14 points in 17 minutes of play, including 4-of-6 shooting from the floor and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
“I thought we took care of the ball a little bit more," said head coach Travis Ford. "We're still fouling too much but I thought we played the pace a bit better and I think Langston helped us a bit with that because they like to play fast as well. We still have a long way to go before we open up Friday against a good team but it was better effort tonight. I definitely saw some improvement. There were some things that we worked on yesterday in practice that they showed tonight and it was important to see that so I can see where the team is at.”
Langston kept it close during the first 11 minutes of the game, trailing by just eight at 29-21 with 8:26 remaining in the first period. However, a 14-0 run by the Pokes extended their lead to 23 at 46-23 with 4:41 to go in the half. OSU took its first 30-point lead of the game with a Kirkland dunk just 40 seconds before intermission, giving the Cowboys a 59-29 lead.
It was much of the same in the second half as Oklahoma State led by as many as 58 points on four occasions late in the game. The Lions went on a 10-0 run over the final 1:45 for the final score.
All five Cowboy starters reached double figures, including 16 by James Anderson and Terrel Harris. Freshman Keiton Page had another double-figure output with 10 points.
OSU shot 48.4 percent from the floor, including 38.9 percent from beyond the three point arc. The Cowboys also forced 28 turnovers with 14 steals, including a game-high seven by Harris.
Lance Sullivan had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds for Langston, while Daniel Thomas led all scorers with 19 points.
Oklahoma State will open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 14, as the Cowboys host the UTSA Roadrunners in a 7 p.m. tipoff inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
