Coach's Update: Rene Sepulveda
October 30, 2008 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
As the Oklahoma State women's cross country team enters the Big 12 Championships, coach Rene Sepulveda talks about the excitement of the meet and how the team is doing.
On who will compete at the Big 12 Championships:
"Tone Hjalmarsen, Mihaela Susa, Natalia Kovtun, Leah Schroeder, Kristen Gillespie, Victoria Fratczak and Brittani Johnson will run for us. We will need all seven of them to contribute."
On the excitement of the Big 12 Championships:
"The Big 12 Championships are always exciting for the team, especially because we get the chance to beat some of our rivals. The athletes are very excited for Big 12's. It looks like we are ranked 4th or 5th in Big 12 and we would be happy with a 3rd- or 4th-place finish. We want to finish in the top four."
On the Cowgirls' last race at the NCAA Pre-Nationals:
"We wanted to finish in the top 10 of our race instead of 13th. Natalia and Tone were recovering from a cold and didn't have a good race, so we can be better than what we have shown."
On how the team is doing:
"The freshmen are tired, so we are starting to rest. We don't have any injuries, just two got sick last week. We rest, cut back on mileage and review team goals each day."
