Cowgirl Equestrian Suffers First Loss At Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. — Oklahoma State's fifth-ranked equestrian team was dealt its first loss of the season on Saturday, falling by a 10-9 count at Fresno State.
With the loss, the Cowgirls fell to 3-1, while the Bulldogs improved to 2-6 on the year.
“We are proud of our girls in their first competition away from home,” OSU head coach Larry Sanchez said. “As a staff we are pleased with where we are at this point in the season.”
The Cowgirls did emerge with a 6-3 victory over the Bulldogs in the Western portion of the event, giving the Western team its third victory of the season. In the horsemanship discipline, senior Jordan Pickelman, sophomore Courtney Whitacre, and freshman Nichole Chirico all captured victories to give the Cowgirls a 3-2 win in the category. Chirico captures the first win of her short career and Pickelman and Whitacre both remained undefeated on the season.
In the reining portion of the Western competition, the Cowgirls earned a 3-1 victory on the day. Junior Leah Kuehn earned the lone MVP for the Cowgirls in the competition. Senior Jacque Roberts and sophomore Bri Parnell captured the other two victories in the reining discipline.
The English squad fell, 7-3, during its portion of the show against the Bulldogs. In equitation on the flat, seniors Sarah Summers and Charlotte Collingsworth earned the only two victories for the Cowgirls in the discipline. With their wins, Summers and Collingsworth both moved to 4-0 on the season. Sophomore Ally Blais earned the only victory in the equitation over fences disciplines, marking her sixth victory of the season.
The Cowgirls will be back in action on November 8 against Texas A&M at the Animal Science Arena in Stillwater.
