Cowboy Golf Tied For Sixth At Isleworth Collegiate

WINDERMERE, Fla.ÂOklahoma State's men's golf team opened play on Sunday at the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational with a 296 total to stand in a tie for sixth place at Isleworth Golf and Country Club.
The Cowboys' 8-over tally knotted them with Clemson for sixth. The duo is two strokes behind Texas Tech and Georgia for fourth place. Alabama finished as the only team under par with a 1-under 287 to come in two shots ahead of Indiana on the day.
Indiana's Jorge Campillo and Alabama's Matthew Swan each fired 4-under 68s to share the individual lead at the par-72, 7,491-yard layout.
OSU's Kevin Tway came in just one stroke back with a 69 to grab sole possession of third place. The Edmond, Okla., native birdied his first hole and bogeyed the ninth to turn at even-par 36. After a bogey at the 12th, Tway stood at 1-over with six holes to play. The sophomore got going with a birdie at the par-5 13th before closing with three consecutive birdies to climb the leaderboard.
A pair of Cowboys coming off victories in their last outings both finished the day tied for 35th place after posting 75s. Freshman Morgan Hoffmann, who tied for first at the Ping/Golfweek Preview, and sophomore Rickie Fowler, the medalist at the World Amateur Team Championship, each posted 3-over scores during Round One.
Junior Trent Whitekiller carded a 77 during his first round to end play tied for 59th, while sophomore Mark Johnson signed for a 79 and is tied for 73rd place.
The Cowboys will return to the course tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. (EST) and will be paired with South Caroline and Georgia Tech.
