Postgame Notes vs. Texas
Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008
Captains for Oklahoma State today vs. Texas were #6 Ricky Price, #18 Matt Fodge, #76 Russell Okung and #80 DeMarcus Conner.
When Texas scored it's second touchdown of the game, it was the most points that OSU has trailed by this season (14-0). The Cowboys trailed Houston by nine (16-7) late in the second quarter before scoring 28 unanswered points. Oklahoma State later trailed again by 14 at 28-14.
With a 23-yard TD run midway through the second quarter, Kendall Hunter went over the 1,000-yard mark for the season. It is the 17th time in school history that a player has rushed for 1,000 or more yards in a single season and just the second by a Cowboy freshman, joining Thurman Thomas who had 1,553 yards as a sophomore in 1985. Hunter now has 1,116 yards on the ground this season. His TD rush was also his eighth scoring rush of the season of 20 yards or more.
Quarterback Zac Robinson moved into second place on the school career total offense list, passing Josh Fields, who had 5,936 total yards passing and rushing in his career. Robinson had 199 yards passing and 26 yards rushing today, moving his career total offense yards to 6,122.
Senior tight end Brandon Pettigrew had 83 yards receiving today, giving him a career total of 1,192 yards and moving him into 14th place on the career receiving yards list. He moved past Terry Brown (1,113 yards), Terance Richardson (1,114) and Gerald Bain (1,144). Pettigrew finished with a career high in receptions (eight) and a season-high in receiving yards (83) today.
Victor Johnson's 52-yard kickoff return in the first quarter was the longest of his career. That return alone exceeded his season total of 41 yards on two kickoff returns, both against Missouri State. Perrish Cox's 52-yard kickoff return late in the first half was the fourth of the season by the Cowboys longer than 50 yards. It was the second of this game.
Oklahoma State scored two rushing touchdowns against the Longhorn defense. UT had given up just two rushing TDs all season long entering today's game.
Jacob Lacey's interception of Colt McCoy with 3:03 left in the third quarter was his fourth INT against Texas in the last two games. He had three vs. the Longhorns last season.
Kicker Dan Bailey's 39-yard field goal with 12:58 remaining in the game is a career long.
Oklahoma State's defense held Texas to just 28 points today, the fewest by the Longhorns this season and the fewest by UT since a 28-25 victory over Nebraska on Oct. 27, 2007, in Austin, a span of 12 games.
