Oklahoma State Moves Up In Newest Wrestling Rankings

STILLWATER, Okla. – Following its 19-14 win over No. 1 Iowa in front of 14,332 fans in Iowa City last week, the Oklahoma State wrestling team improved to No. 3 in this week's USA Today/InterMat/NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll, it was announced today. The Cowboys were previously ranked sixth in the same poll. Additionally, Oklahoma State moved up from the No. 4 spot into the in the W.I.N. Magazine Tournament Team Power Index to the No. 3 hole.
As for individuals, OSU senior Coleman Scott retained the top spot in the Amateur Wrestling News (AWN) rankings at 133 pounds after knocking off No. 2 Joe Slaton of Iowa by an 8-6 decision. Senior 165-pounder Jake Dieffenbach catapulted from No. 8 to No. 3 in the AWN rankings after his 5-3 win over No. 2 Mark Perry.
Senior 141-pounder Nathan Morgan improved one spot from No. 4 to No. 3 in the AWN rankings after his 8-4 win over No. 10 Dan LeClere, with 174-pounder Brandon Mason holding steady at the No. 5 spot after his 2-0 win over No. 11 Jay Borschel. Sophomore 157-pounder Newly McSpadden's win over No. 19 Ryan Morningstar moved him from the No. 18 position into the No. 15 slot. Heavyweight Jared Rosholt remains in the No. 6 spot after dropping a 4-3 decision to No. 8 Matt Fields.
The Cowboys return to action when they compete at the Virginia Duals from Jan. 11-12. They will open with Drexel at 9 a.m. on Friday.
