OSU vs. Northern Iowa Quotes
January 26, 2008 | Cowboy Wrestling
Coach John Smith
On Friday's dual:
“I thought we looked like we had a tough weekend last weekend. I think it may help us wrestle even better next time we go out. It was good to see the weights that have struggled pick up wins. I was really pleased with 197. As tough a match as that was, there was a lot of action. It was good to see him keep his focus and pick up that win. We know we are going to have to wrestle much better on Sunday to win.”
“It's good to get on the winning side. I think everybody saw what I saw out there. We were maybe a little bit too conservative. 141 struggled some. We had three opportunities to pick up major decisions. It's good to see something we can talk positive about.
On Ryan Freeman:
“He is an inspiration for a lot of people. That's what happens when you keep hammering along. It is likely that we are going to see him in the lineup against Iowa State.”
Coleman Scott
On his pin of Josh Baldridge:
“I just got a takedown and got the fall. That is just what I wanted to do tonight. We looked alright tonight as a whole. We had a few guys that need to tighten up some stuff and expand the scores a little bit. It will definitely get us going for Sunday. It will be a big match. Some of our guys were on losing streaks and they got some confidence tonight. They are going to need all of that confidence on Sunday.”
Ryan Freeman
On being in the lineup:
“It's a great opportunity and if that's where the team needs me, then that's what I'm going to do. I'm all about the team pulling for a national title this year. It's great to be back in Gallagher. It's neat to see the freshmen come back in and really hope the best for them. It's great to see everybody pull together. I am glad to be a part of it, whether I'm in the spotlight or in the dungeons working my butt off.”
On the team:
“[Tonight's win] is a great confidence boost, but the season is really dragging on for a lot of people. It is kind of a breaking point. Are we going to get tired and sore or are we going to push through and end up where we want to.”
