Cowgirl Soccer Hands Out Annual Awards

The Oklahoma State soccer team recently held its annual awards banquet, and several Cowgirls were recognized for their outstanding contributions during the 2007 season.
Six of the awards handed out were voted on by the Cowgirl players. Those included:
 Team MVP: Junior midfielder Yolanda Odenyo was named the team MVP. Odenyo was second on the team in goals (9) and points (17) and started all 23 games for the Cowgirls.
 Offensive Player of the Year: Sophomore forward Kasey Langdon earned this award from her teammates after leading the team in scoring with 19 points. She recorded nine assists, which ranked second in the Big 12 Conference, and also had five goals.
 Defensive Player of the Year: Another sophomore, Bridget Miller, brought home this award. Miller started all 23 games at defender for the Cowgirls and was a huge part of a defense that recorded a Big 12-best 10 shutouts and a 0.84 goals against average.
 Most Inspirational: Junior goalkeeper Erin Stigler was voted the team's most inspirational player. The former walk-on led the Big 12 with seven shutouts in '07 and along the way set the school record for career shutouts. Stigler has racked up 15 shutouts in her OSU career.
 Top Newcomer: Allyson Leggett was named the squad's top newcomer. A freshman defender from Jenks, Leggett played in all 23 games and was an integral part of a defense that recorded a Big 12-best 10 shutouts and a 0.84 goals against average.
 Most Improved: The Cowgirls voted sophomore Andrea Sartin as the team's most improved player. Sartin played in 17 games at defender and was a key part of a defense that recorded a Big 12-best 10 shutouts and a 0.84 goals against average.
Two Cowgirls were honored by the Cowgirl coaching staff of Colin Carmichael, Karen Hancock and Tony Economopoulos.
Senior midfielder Sasa Jackson received the Bob Conner Award as the team's hardest working player for the second-straight season. Jackson collected five goals and three assists in her final season as a Cowgirl.
The Coaches Award is given to honor a player for outstanding on-field performance and was presented to Siera Strawser. A sophomore midfielder, Strawser led OSU with eight goals and tied for second on the team in scoring.
OSU ended the 2007 season with a 14-6-3 record, including four wins over teams ranked in the top 10 nationally, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship for the second-consecutive season.
The Cowgirls ended the season ranked as high as No. 17 in the national polls.
