Cowgirls set for the Nebraska Open

The Basics
The Oklahoma State women's track and field team heads north to compete in the Nebraska Open beginning at 4 p.m. this Friday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb.
Scheduled Starts
The Nebraska Open is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. with the Weight Throw and High Jump, Long Jump and Pole Vault to follow. The 60-meter hurdle prelims to start at 4:30 p.m. followed by the 60-meter dash, 800 meter run, 1000 meter run, mile run, 3000 meter run and to end day one, the 5000 meter run.
Looking for the Cowgirls
A total of 31 Cowgirls will compete in 17 events at the Nebraska Open. Freshman Brandi Andrews will compete in the 1000-meter run. Clarissa Andrews and Baiba Blumbaha will compete in the long jump and triple jump. Mateja Posavec will compete in the triple jump. Seniors Fey Bashorun, Lauren McKee and freshman Kim Johnson will suit up for the 200-meter and 60-meter races. The mile run features a pair of Cowgirls in Kim Blomkvist and Alina Istrate. Tone Hjalmarsen, Mihaela Susa, Eva Tomankova, Maria Trejo and McKale Davis will run in the 3000-meter race, with Merritt Dietz, LaKendra Greathouse and senior Tihana Sarac all competing in the shot put. Senior Deleanor Kirkpatrick and sophomore Julie Rader are scheduled to compete in the weight throw and Teran Mixon is set to run in the 1000-meter race. Irene Masai will compete in the 600-yard run and 800-meter run. Tekeisha Lewis will line up for the 60-meter dash. Sophomore Destyn Stallings will compete in the high jump with freshman Jazmine Harp competing in the 200-meter dash.
Day two of the Open
On day two of the Nebraska Open, events are scheduled to start at noon with the pole vault and 60-meter hurdle finals followed by the 60-meter dash finals, 400-meter dash, 600-yard run, 200-meter dash, distance medley relay, 4x400-meter relay, shot put and the triple jump. The high jump starts at 1:00 p.m.
25 and Over
The OSU Cowgirl track team will packing a little extra for the trip to Nebraska, and not because it's cold. The Cowgirls will travel as a team, with all 31 members will suiting up. “It's going to be good team building, team bonding to start off the season.” head coach Rene Sepulveda said.
Quoting the Coach
“We are actually getting out on the track and running faster-paced things, and for the jumpers to actually jump, throwers to actually throw because we don't have an indoor facility and if it's really bad out we're just kind of limited on our practice, so what we've been doing is taking advantage of the good weather.” Sepulveda said
Looking Ahead
This week's Nebraska Open and next Sunday's 3M Half Marathon and Relay put a cap on the month of January for OSU. February will be a busy month on the track for the Cowgirls, who compete in six meets, the J.D. Martin Invitational in Norman on Feb. 2, the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind., on Feb. 8, the Iowa State Open in Ames on Feb. 15, the USA Cross Country Championships in San Diego on Feb. 16, the Sooner Open in Norman on Feb. 23 and the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Lincoln on Feb. 29. The NCAA Indoor Championships are set for March 14 in Fayetteville, Ark.
