Savage, Bowman To Team Up Once Again
January 15, 2008 | Cowboy Football
Two of the brightest stars from the 2007 Oklahoma State football season will be together again later this month in the 2008 Under Armour Senior Bowl.
Running back Dantrell Savage and receiver Adarius Bowman will be teammates in the all-star game that will be played in Mobile, Ala., on Jan. 26. The game will be televised by the NFL Network beginning at 3 p.m. (CST). The NFL Network will also carry practices during the week of the game.
Savage and Bowman helped lead the Cowboys to 34.6 points per game and more than 486 yards per contest (seventh nationally) in 2007. While official rosters won't be announced until Sunday, head coaches for the game will be Mike Nolan of the San Francisco 49ers and Jon Gruden of Tampa Bay. The coaches are selected by the National Football League.
Both Savage and Bowman earned first-team all-conference honors during the course of their careers. Savage earned first-team accolades in 2007 when he rushed for 1,272 yards and nine touchdowns. He rushed for more than 100 yards in the final 10 games of his OSU career. The outgoing Cowboy from Columbus, Ga., ended his collegiate career with 2,092 rushing yards to rank No. 14 all-time at OSU. His 115.6 rushing yards per game in 2007 ranked him No. 18 in the country in that category and second in the Big 12.
Bowman concluded his days in orange and black with 127 catches for 2,187 receiving yards to rank fourth all-time at OSU in both of those categories. Bowman, a 2006 first-team all-Big 12 selection, ended his career with an average of 17.4 yards per reception to rank fourth among all active players in 2007. Bowman caught at least two passes in every game of his OSU career and caught 20 touchdown passes in 24 games as a Cowboy.
Former Cowboy greats who have participated in the Senior Bowl include running backs Walt Garrison (1966), Terry Miller (1978), Ernest Anderson (1984), Thurman Thomas (1988) and Tatum Bell (2004). Bowman will become the first Cowboy receiver to play in the Senior Bowl since Hermann Eben in 1974.
Cowboy defensive lineman Ryan McBean played in last year's game.
