No. 3 Cowboys Roll On Day One At Virginia Duals

HAMPTON, Va. Â The No. 3 Oklahoma State wrestling team picked up a pair of wins over Drexel and Rider in day one action at the Virginia Duals Friday at the Hampton Coliseum. OSU beat Drexel, 35-12 before handing Rider a 39-9 defeat.
Bonus points were the norm for the Cowboys Friday, as the Pokes recorded bonus points in each of their seven wins over Drexel and in all but one of their wins over Rider. At 133 pounds, top-ranked Coleman Scott claimed a 16-0 technical fall win over Drexel's William Martin, then followed that performance up with a 13-2 major decision win over Rider's Dustin Renelt. OSU 141-pounder Nathan Morgan won both of his matches by technical fall, claiming a 20-5 win over Drexel's Morgan Remillard to go with a 20-5 victory over Fred Rogers.
Sophomore heavyweight Jared Rosholt, ranked seventh in the nation this week, also notched bonus points in both of his matches, pinning Drexel's Kyle Frey at the 1:00 mark before claiming a 9-0 major decision win over Rider's Ed Bordas. Suiting up for the first time this year in an event outside of an open tournament was senior 184-pounder Jack Jensen, who earned a 10-2 major decision over Drexel's Justin Wieller in his first match and an 18-1 technical fall triumph over Rider's Michael Darling in his second match. Also making his regular-season debut for the Cowboys was sophomore 125-pounder Tyler Shinn, who pinned Rider's Ilyass Elmasouri at the 5:29 mark of his bout. He did not wrestle against Drexel, as Ben Ashmore lost a 7-4 decision at the hands of No. 20 Steve Mytych.
Freshman 149-pounder Quinten Fuentes got back on track with a pin over Drexel's Kyle Bub at the 4:48 mark. He did not wrestle in the dual against Rider, as the Broncs forfeited the match. In the only match of the day featuring two ranked wrestlers, OSU's Newly McSpadden, ranked No. 13 in the nation at 157 pounds, lost a 3-1 overtime decision to No. 15 Ryan Hluschak of Drexel. McSpadden did not wrestle against Rider, as Neil Erisman stepped in and was pinned by Rob Morrison at the 4:13 mark.
The Cowboys split their two matches at 165 pounds, with sophomore Kevin Wainscott getting pinned by Drexel's Billy Haydt at 4:31 and fifth-ranked Jake Dieffenbach claiming an 8-5 decision over Rider's Jason Lapham. At 174 pounds, No. 4 Brandon Mason claimed a 15-0 technical fall victory over Drexel's Scott Hunter in his only match of the day, as Rider forfeited the 174-pound bout. Cowboy 197-pounder Clayton Foster split his two matches on the day, picking up a 16-5 major decision win over Drexel's Brian Stouffer before narrowly missing out on an upset of No. 16 T.J. Morrison of Rider, eventually falling in overtime by a 10-8 decision.
OSU faces Pennsylvania in the semifinals at 1 p.m. central time Saturday. The two teams have met three times in the past, with the Cowboys claiming wins over the Quakers in 1998, 2000 and 2002.
