Cross Country Runs In Friends Invitational Tonight
September 08, 2007 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
The Basics
The Oklahoma State women's cross country team competes in its second meet of the season Friday at the 2007 Friends Invitational in Wichita, Kan.
The race will be run at Lake Afton near Wichita. The 5,000 meter race is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
OSU Lineup
Running for the Cowgirls this week will be Brandi Andrews, Clarissa Andrews, Baiba Blumbaha, Brittany Brewer, Kimberly Johnson, Irene Masai, Brittany Mason, Teran Mixon, Mateja Posavec, Tihana Sarac, and Meghan Sullivan.
About The Cowgirls
Head coach Rene Sepulveda enters his fifth year at Oklahoma State, where he has guided the Cowgirl program into the upper third of the Big 12 during the past three years. Under Sepulveda, Oklahoma State enters the 2007 season fresh off enjoying its best three-year span since joining the Big 12 as the Cowgirls finished third at the conference meet in 2004, second at the conference meet in 2005 and fourth at the conference meet in 2006.
Sophomore Tone Hjalmarsen and seniors Kim Blomkvist and Eva Tomkanova figure to lead the Cowgirl charge in 2007.
Mixing It Up
Last week at the 2007 Hurricane Festival, coach Sepulvada ran a lot of his track and field athletes instead of his regular cross country runners. He said he wanted to see how his jumpers, sprinters, and throwers could handle the long-distance run and was pleased that everyone finished the two-mile race.
This week for the Friends Invitational, Sepulvada is again competing with some of his track and field team. He said he will run a mix of cross country runners as well as some of the jumpers and distance sprinters off the track squad.
2007 Hurricane Festival Recap
The Cowgirls took third place with 79 points at last Saturday's Hurricane Festival in Tulsa, Okla.
OSU competed in the cross country run with jumpers, sprinters, and throwers from the track and field team.
Nineteen Cowgirls started and finished the two-mile run, five of them finishing in the top 20. Redshirt freshman Irene Masai led the team with a 14th place finish in a time of 12:37.
