Cowgirls Continue Winning Streak With 5-0 Rout Of Xavier

STILLWATER, Okla. — Freshman Katie Richardson scored a pair of goals to lead 17th-ranked Oklahoma State to a 5-0 win over Xavier in the OSU Invitational on Friday night at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
With the win, OSU improved to 3-0 on the season, marking the third consecutive year the Cowgirls have opened the season with three-straight wins.
OSU's five goals were its most since last year's season opener when the Cowgirls racked up 10 goals against Texas State. The Cowgirls outshot Xavier, 19-7, on the night as the Musketeers dropped to 0-4 on the season.
”Overall, I was happy with the way we played,” said OSU coach Colin Carmichael. “We're making progress. We finished a lot better tonight. We've been creating a lot of opportunities, and tonight we capitalized.
“We're showing signs of what kind of team we could become.”
OSU got on the scoreboard just over 20 minutes into the contest when Kasey Langdon took a beautiful pass from Annika Niemeier and found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
The Cowgirls would take a 2-0 lead into intermission on Richardson's first goal of the contest. Leah Hope and Sasa Jackson each recorded assists on the play, and Jackson delivered a perfect pass across the box to Richardson for an easy goal.
Jackson recorded her first goal of the season less than two minutes into the second half, and just two minutes later, OSU led 4-0 on an unassisted goal by Niemeier.
Richardson provided the Cowgirls' final goal in the 65th minute on an assist by Jamie Markaverich.
“It feels good,” said Richardson, who leads OSU with three goals on the season. “My teammates set me up perfectly, and all I have to do is put it in.”
Erin Stigler and Kaitlyn Gustaves combined for their second-straight shutout in goal for the Cowgirls. Stigler recorded a pair of saves in 53 minutes of action, while Gustaves also had two saves.
OSU returns to action Sunday against Louisiana-Monroe. The match is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
