Odenyo's Goal Lifts Cowgirls To Win

LINCOLN, Neb. — Yolanda Odenyo's goal in the 39th minute gave No. 13 Oklahoma State a 1-0 win over Nebraska on Sunday at the NU Soccer Field.
With the win, the Cowboys improved to 7-2-1 overall and 1-1-0 in Big 12 Conference play. Nebraska fell to 4-3-3 and 1-1-0 in the league.
“The conditions were very difficult with the wind gusting up to about 35 miles per hour, but we got a great team effort, played well and deserved to win,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael.
Odenyo's game-winning goal came at the 38:24 mark. Annika Niemeier and Adriane Radtke recorded assists on the play as Niemeier sent a corner kick to Radtke, who fed Odenyo for her first goal of the season.
Carmichael praised the play of Niemeier, a redshirt freshman from Germany who helped the Cowgirls hand Nebraska its first loss at home this season.
“Annika played a great game, her best game since she's been here,” Carmichael said. “She was all over the place and controlled the midfield. She played with a lot of energy and desire.”
OSU goalkeeper Erin Stigler notched her third shutout in the last four games as she recorded three saves. The junior moved into a tie for second on OSU's career shutouts list with 11, and she now has 73 saves in her career to rank fifth on the Cowgirls' all-time list.
OSU returns to action Thursday when they host third-ranked Texas A&M in a showdown at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex. The match is scheduled for a 7:07 p.m. start and will be nationally televised live by the Fox Soccer Channel.
