Cowgirls Blank Arkansas State, 3-0

JONESBORO, Ark. — Freshmen Annika Niemeier and Katie Richardson each scored their first-career goals to help No. 20 Oklahoma State to a 3-0 win over Arkansas State on Sunday at the Indian Soccer Complex.
OSU improved to 2-0 on the young season after outshooting the Lady Indians, 25-6, including a 16-4 difference on shots on goal. ASU fell to 0-2 with the loss.
“It was a decent game for us,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. “We created a lot of scoring chances and actually should have had a few more goals. But we're happy to get the win.”
Junior Jessica Jarrell got the scoring started for OSU with the second goal of her career at the 13-minute mark, with Kasey Langdon recorded her second assist of the season on the play.
The Cowgirls took a 2-0 lead on an unassisted goal from Niemeier, a redshirt freshman from Germany.
OSU's final score of the day came from Richardson, a true freshman from Broken Arrow, who got an assist from Adriane Radtke.
“It was good to see those girls step up and put the ball in the net,” Carmichael said. “The more scoring threats we have, the better.”
Junior Erin Stigler and freshman Kaitlyn Gustaves combined on the shutout in goal for the Cowgirls. Stigler recorded four saves in 74 minutes, while Gustaves was in the box for the final 16 minutes.
The Cowgirls return to action this weekend when they host the OSU Invitational at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex. OSU will play Xavier Friday night and Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday. Oral Roberts is also in the tournament.
