OSU's Fodge Named To Watch List
September 18, 2007 | Cowboy Football
Oklahoma State junior punter Matt Fodge became the latest Cowboy officially recognized as a candidate for national honors when he was named to the watch list for the 2007 Ray Guy Award.
The Ray Guy Award, presented by the Greater Augusta (Ga.) Sports Council, is presented annually to the nation's top punter.
Fodge was a second-team All-American last season, as selected by Rivals.com. He was also a second-team all-Big 12 choice. Through the first three games of the 2007 season, Fodge is averaging 43.4 yards per boot, including a 65-yarder. He has had four punts downed inside the opposition's 20-yard-line.
Fodge hails from Garland (Texas) High School. Along with being named a second-team All-American last season, he was also a first-team academic all-Big 12 selection as a business major. His 44.9-yard average last season was the second best in OSU history and was eighth nationally in 2006.
The first watch list of Ray Guy Award candidates will be trimmed to 10 semifinalists in November. Three finalists will then be selected by a national committee of sports writers, college football coaches, media relations directors, and former Ray Guy Award winners.
The winner of the award will be announced on the Home Depot College Football Awards Show, which will be televised by ESPN on Dec. 6.
