September 16, 2007 | Cowgirl Soccer
SOUTH BEND, Ind. Â Oklahoma State's four-game winning streak to start the season came to an end Friday as Washington State topped the 16th-ranked Cowgirls, 1-0, at the Notre Dame Inn at Saint Mary's Classic at Alumni Field in South Bend, Indiana.
With the loss, OSU dropped to 4-1-0 on the season, while Washington State improved to 3-0-1.
The lone goal of the match came in the third minute as WSU's Mallory Fox scored from eight-yards out at the 3:23 mark. The goal was just the second OSU has allowed this season and the first since its season opener.
OSU outshot the Cougars, 6-3, in the opening half, including a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. But the Cowgirls could not find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes as WSU goalkeeper Brynn Bemis recorded five saves.
That trend continued in the second half. For the game, OSU outshot the Cougars, 9-4, but Bemis racked up seven saves to shut out the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls will conclude tourney action Sunday when they take on host and ninth-ranked Notre Dame.
