Cowgirl Cross Country Claims Title at Friends Invitational

WICHITA, Kan. - The Oklahoma State women's cross country team claimed first place at the 5000-meter Friends Invitational in Wichita, Kan., Friday night. The Cowgirls finished with a team total of 66 points, besting second place Cowley County by six points. En route to their first victory of the season, the Cowgirls placed four runners in the top 15.
Junior Brittany Mason led the way for the Cowgirls, finishing third in a time of 19:35. Redshirt freshman Irene Masai recorded a top 15 finish for the second straight weekend, finishing seventh in 20:27. Freshman Teran Mixon finished 12th in 20:56 and senior Meghan Sullivan posted a 14th place finish in 21:15. Freshman Brittany Brewer rounded out the Cowgirl scoring, finishing 31st in 22:32.
"The girls competed very well and it was a good team effort tonight," said head coach Rene Sepulveda."For a lot of these girls it was their first 5000-meter race and I thought they competed well and it was exciting for me to watch."
The Cowgirls return to action next Saturday when they travel to Boston, Mass. for the Boston College Invitational.
