Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted a 6-over 290 team score on Tuesday during the final round of the Inverness Intercollegiate to move up four spots and finish alone in seventh place.
The Cowboys began the day in 11th place and 12 shots out of their finishing position, but were able to move up after firing the day's second-best score. OSU came in with a 32-over par total of 884 and three shots behind Indiana for the sixth spot.
Florida State captured the team title after posting a 54-hole score of 862, shattering the tournament's previous best team total of 876. Michigan State finished six shots back at 868.
The Seminoles' Jonas Blixt and the Spartans' Ryan Brehm tied for the top spot on the individual leaderboard at 210 after posting rounds of 75 and 73, respectively, to close out the tournament. The duo also became the first players to finish under par in the seven-year history of the tournament.
Leading the way for the Cowboys was junior Trent Leon, who turned in his second consecutive 74 at Inverness Club to move up two spots into a tie for 18th place at 220. The showing marked the ninth time the Dallas, Texas native has finished among the top 20 during his career.
Sophomore Chris Ward posted his best round of the event with a 1-over 72 to finish tied for 20th place at 221. The showing was the best in seven career starts for the McKinney, Texas native.
Freshman Mark Johnson narrowly missed a top-20 finish in his first career tournament, carding a 71 to come in one stroke behind Ward at 222 and tied for 22nd place. The Tulsa, Okla. native's even-par round moved him up 27 spots on the leaderboard and was the squad's low round of the day.
Jon McLean also posted his low round of the event, closing with a 73. The junior transfer moved up 19 spots during the final round to finish tied for 30th at 224 during his Cowboy debut.
Freshman Kevin Tway also made a significant move during his final round, moving up 13 spots into a tie for 36th place after carding a 74. The Edmond, Okla. native finished at 12-over 225 in his first collegiate start.
The Cowboys will be back in action on Sept. 22 when they take part in the Ping/Golfweek Preview in West Lafayette, Indiana.
