The Season Of 2007
The Oklahoma State Cowboys will open their 106th season of college football on Saturday (Sept. 1) when they visit the Georgia Bulldogs. The Cowboys will also be opening their third season under head coach and former OSU quarterback Mike Gundy.
TV Talk
The Oklahoma State-Georgia game can be seen nationally on ESPN2 with Mark Jones calling the action and Bob Davie providing analysis. Stacy Dales will be on the sidelines. Three of OSU's first four games can be seen nationally. Along with the Georgia game, OSU's trip to Troy on Sept. 14 will also be available on ESPN2 and the Big 12 opener with Texas Tech on Sept. 22 will be carried by Fox Sports Net.
The Program
Oklahoma State has played in four bowl games over the past five seasons (Houston, Cotton, Alamo, Independence). A fifth bowl game in six seasons would be a first for Oklahoma State. OSU's bowl winning percentage (.647) is the best in the Big 12 Conference. Oklahoma State is 11-6 in bowl play.
The Series
Oklahoma State and Georgia will be meeting for just the third time ever and for the first time since they played consecutively in 1946 and 1947. The Bulldogs won both games (33-7 in 1946 in a game played in Athens, and 20-7 the following season in Stillwater).
Stadium Talk
The Bulldogs play in Sanford Stadium, the nation's fifth largest on-campus facility with a seating capacity of 92,746. After the visit to Athens, OSU will have played in four of the five largest stadiums in the country with trips to the largest (Michigan), third largest (Tennessee), fourth largest (Ohio State) and Georgia. The only member of the top five stadiums missing from OSU's all-time road trips would be Penn State.
Bowl Champs
In the opening weekend of the college football season, only two games feature a pair of bowl winners from the 2006 season: Oklahoma State at Georgia, and Utah at Oregon State.
Georgia At A Glance
The Georgia Bulldogs enter the season coming off a 9-4 2006 and a win over Virginia Tech in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. The Bulldogs have made six straight bowl appearances. They are 17-0 under head coach Mark Richt in non-conference home games and since 2001 they have the second best record in the SEC at 61-17.
SEC Again
After not playing a Southeastern Conference opponent from 1999 through the 2006 regular season and only suiting up against the SEC just five times from 1981 until last year's bowl game, Oklahoma State will play an SEC opponent for the second straight game when it meets the Bulldogs. OSU closed the 2006 season with the bowl win over Alabama.
