2006: Played in 12 games as a sophomore ... Caught his lone pass of the season in the opener against Missouri State for eight yards ... Completed a pass for the second straight year when teamed up with Adarius Bowman for a 12-yard completion against Oklahoma.
2005: Newton played in five games as a receiver ... Did not catch a pass, but completed one for 13 yards on a throwback pass to Al Peña against Texas A&M.
2004: Redshirt.
High School: Newton was one of the top receiver prospects in Kansas after a spectacular season for a district champion ... Prep career statistics included 92 catches for 1,820 yards and 24 touchdowns ... Had 26 kick returns for 457 yards and 31 punt returns for 785 yards and four touchdowns ... Had seven career interceptions on defense ... Three-year starter in basketball and a member of the National Honor Society ... All-state and all-district ... Spent some time at quarterback.
