OSU Promotes Luper To Assistant Head Football Coach
June 01, 2007 | Cowboy Football
Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy has announced that running backs coach Curtis Luper will assume the title of assistant head coach for player development while continuing to coach the Cowboy backfield.
Luper came to Oklahoma State in 2005 when Gundy was putting his first staff in place. Although a graduate of Stephen F. Austin, Luper played three years at Oklahoma State as a running back.
“In today's society, the leadership we provide for our student-athletes is very important,” Gundy said. “Curtis does a great job with that. He has a tremendous relationship with our players. He will work closely with them on their development on and off the field.”
Luper spent three years coaching running backs at New Mexico before returning to Stillwater. He has also coached at Texas A&M-Commerce and Stephen F. Austin. He began his coaching career at McKinney High School in Texas.
As a prep senior, Luper was rated as the second best running back in the state of Texas behind his eventual OSU teammate, Thurman Thomas.
