Cowboy Golf Moves Into Top 10 At NCAA Championship

Oklahoma State's men's golf team was one of just six teams to break par on Thursday during the second round of action at the NCAA Championship at the Golden Horseshoe Gold Course. The Cowboys posted a 1-under 279 total to finish the day tied for eighth place.
OSU began play alone in 19th place after an opening round of 287 before moving up 11 spots to finish tied with Texas at the halfway point of the event at 566, 6-over. First-round leader Stanford maintained its position, getting to 7-under with a round of 278 to stand at 553 and one shot clear of Minnesota.
Beginning play on the back nine, the Cowboys got off to a hot start making the turn at 4-under as a team to begin their climb up the leaderboard.
“It was nice to see us move in the right direction and get going up the leaderboard,” Cowboy head coach Mike McGraw said. “There really is no secret to what we have to do out there.”
Individually, Minnesota's Bronson LaCassie took over the individual lead with a 5-under 65 to get to 8-under 132.
Sophomore Trent Leon carded birdies on two of his final five holes on the outward nine and got to 2-under with a birdie on his 10th hole. The Dallas, Texas native dropped to 1-over on the day with a double bogey on his 13th hole before finishing strong with two birdies over his final five holes to come in with a 69. Leon currently stands in a tie for 29th place with his 1-over 141 total.
Junior Pablo Martin stood at 1-over on his front nine before getting sidetracked with a quadruple bogey on the par-4 18th hole to turn at 5-over 40. The Malaga, Spain native stood at 6-over with five holes to play before rallying with four consecutive birdies and a closing par to finish with a 72. Martin will begin his third round tied for 44th place at 142.
Senior Ryan Posey bogeyed two of his first three holes before posting a birdie on his fourth hole. The Dallas, Texas native put together nine-straight pars before a birdie at the par-4 fifth hole got him back to level par before finishing with a 71. Posey is one of three Cowboys tied for 58th place at 143.
Sophomore Jonathan Moore bogeyed his second hole before stringing together three consecutive birdies to turn at 2-under 33. The Vancouver, Wash. native came in with a 2-over 37 on his second nine to finish at with 70. Moore is also among the group tied for 58th place.
Senior Tyler Leon birdied the final two holes of his opening nine to get 2-under. The Dallas, Texas native stood at even par with four to play before closing his round with a birdie and three pars to come in with a 1-under 69 to move into 58th place.
The Cowboys will return to the course tomorrow at 7:47 a.m. (EST) and will be paired with UCLA and Texas.
