Cowboys Drop Opener At Big 12 Baseball Championship

OKLAHOMA CITY - Baylor scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning and handed Oklahoma State a 3-1 loss on a game that started late Wednesday night and ended early Thursday morning in the opening round of the Big 12 Baseball Championship at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
With the loss, 15th-ranked OSU dropped to 38-17 overall, while Baylor improved to 32-24 on the season.
OSU starter Joe Kent did not allow a hit in his first 4.1 innings of work and struck out six during that span.

OSU finally broke through for a run in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Jordy Mercer doubled down the left-field line, and Ryan Flavell delivered an RBI single to make the score 3-1 and drive BU starter Jeff Mandel from the game.
Mercer and Keanon Simon each went 2-for-4 to combine for four of OSU's eight hits, while Ty Wright singled in the second inning to extend his hitting streak to 32 games.
Mandel worked 6.2 innings and improved to 7-7 on the season. The right hander scattered seven hits and allowed just one run while striking out five.
Nick Cassavechia earned his ninth save for the Bears as he allowed just one hit in 2.1 scoreless innings.
The Cowboys return to tourney action Friday night at 7:30 against Bedlam-rival
