May 21, 2007 | Cowboy Baseball
STILLWATER, Okla. Â Oklahoma State dropped its third Big 12 Conference series of the season as Missouri secured a series win with an 8-5 victory over the Cowboys on Saturday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
The loss, which was the Cowboys' fifth in a row at home, dropped OSU to 38-15 overall and 16-10 in the Big 12, while the 17th-ranked Tigers improved to 38-14 and 18-8 in the league.
The Cowboys took the game's first lead in their first at bat as Tyler Mach followed a Keanon Simon single with a two-run home run to left field. The blast was Mach's 15th homer of the season and gave OSU a 2-0 lead.
That lead held until the third, when three-straight RBI hits off OSU starter Oliver Odle gave the Tigers a 3-2 advantage. Brock Bond plated the first run with a single, and after a double by Ryan Lollis tied the score, an RBI single by Jacob Priday put MU on top.
Mizzou added runs in each of the next two innings to take a three-run lead before OSU would get on the scoreboard again.
In the sixth, Simon got the inning started with a single and later scored on a single by Matt Mangini. Jordy Mercer then collected an RBI on an infield single to make the score 5-4.
The Cowboys tied the score in the next inning. Ty Wright doubled, a hit that extended his hitting streak to 30 games, and Simon followed with an RBI single to knot the score at 5-5.
OSU would not be able to regain the lead, however, as Missouri scored three runs over the final two innings to earn the win.
In the eighth, OSU reliever Justin Friend hit Aaron Senne with a pitch to open the frame, and a two-out, infield single by Evan Frey later in the inning scored Senne with the go-ahead run.
MU added its final two runs off Jordy Mercer in the ninth, getting RBI hits from Trevor Coleman and Senne.
Friend, who was one of six Cowboy pitchers on the day, suffered the loss to fall to 5-3, while Mizzou's Kyle Gibson was the winning pitcher in relief to improve to 7-3. Scooter Hicks earned his second save of the series and fifth of the season with a scoreless ninth.
Simon had four of OSU's 11 hits as he was 4-for-5 on the day, while Mach and Rebel Ridling each had two hits apiece for the Cowboys.
Sunday's series finale is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
