Cowboy Golf Finishes Sixth At NCAA Central Regional

Oklahoma State's men's golf team extended its record string of NCAA Championship appearances to 61 consecutive berths on Saturday after finishing in sixth place at the NCAA Central Regional at Rich Harvest Farms.
The Cowboys have now advanced to the NCAA Championship each year since the program's inception during the 1946-47 season. Making the streak even more remarkable is the fact that Arizona currently holds the second-longest run at 21.
OSU moved on by posting the low round of the day among the 27 participating teams with its second consecutive 12-over 300. The Cowboys finished with a 54-hole total of 906 to come in two strokes behind fifth-place Tennessee. Tulsa finished atop the leaderboard with a 31-over 895 total to finish three shots clear of runner-up Alabama.
Individually, only two players in the field finished below par as Dawie Van Der Walt of Lamar and Wisconsin's Dan Woltman tied for first with 1-under 25 totals.
Senior Tyler Leon came in as the Cowboys' top finisher, tying for ninth place with a 7-over 223 total. The Dallas, Texas native put together a round on Saturday that included four birdies on his way to carding a 75 and locking up his second top-10 finish in four career regional starts.
Senior Ryan Posey posted three consecutive birdies to start his round and finished with four on the day en route to a 2-over 74. The Dallas, Texas native stood in a tie for 76th place after the first round, but played his final 36 holes in 2-over and finished tied for 28th place at 11-over 227.
Sophomore Trent Leon led OSU's final-round charge, posting a team-best 72 on the day. The Dallas, Texas native birdied two of his first four holes before making the turn at 1-over. Leon got back into red figures with an eagle at the par-5 11th hole and birdied No. 17 to get in with his even-par tally. WIth his third-round score, Leon charged up the leaderboard, moving from a tie for 89th place into a tie for 44th at 230.
Sophomore Jonathan Moore carded three birdies on his outward nine to turn at 1-over before finishing with a 7-over 79. For the event, the Vancouver, Wash. native put together a 231 total to tie for 50th place.
Junior Pablo Martin turned in an 84 on Saturday to finish tied for 105th at 241.
The Cowboys will be back in action on May 30 when they begin play at the NCAA Championship in Williamsburg, Va. at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club.
