Cowboys Set To Begin Play At NCAA Central Regional

Cowboys Look To Extend NCAA String At Central Regional
Oklahoma State's men's golf team will be in search of an unprecedented 61st-straight NCAA Championship appearance this week when it begins play at the NCAA Central Regional on Thursday. OSU is in the midst of a two-tournament winning streak after victories at the Big 12 Championship and The Maxwell. The second-seeded Cowboys and the rest of the 27-team field will compete at the par-72, 7,184-yard Rich Harvest Farms Golf Club in Sugar Grove, Illinois with the top 10 squads advancing to the NCAA Championship, which will be contested at Golden Horsehoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va. from May 30-June 2. The regional will take place Thursday-Saturday with 18 holes being contested each day.
About The Field
OSU has crossed paths with 19 of the 26 teams they will face in this year's Central Regional and has tallied a 40-10-1 mark overall against those opponents this season. This year's field includes seven of the top 25 teams in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. Joining the sixth-ranked Cowboys are Lamar (No. 3), Alabama (No. 4), Texas A&M (No. 14), Tulsa (No. 16), Tennessee (No. 17) and Louisville (No. 18).
OSU At The Central Regional
OSU has captured six titles and produced five individual medalists at the regional tournament since the inception of the current qualifying format in 1989. The program's victories came in 1989, 1990, 1997, 2002, 2003 and 2006. OSU is one of just seven schools to compete in every NCAA Regional, joining Arizona, Arizona State, Clemson, North Carolina, UNLV and USC.
A Look Back ... 2006 NCAA Central Regional
Oklahoma State's men's golf team cruised to a 16-shot victory at the NCAA Central Regional being contested at Sand Ridge Golf Club. The victory was OSU's sixth regional title since the current qualifying format was implemented in 1989. For the fifth time, OSU also produced the regional medalist as Jonathan Moore continued his torrid pace, posting a 67 to finish at 8-under 205 to finish three shots clear of the field. The Vancouver, Wash., native extended his streak of consecutive rounds in the 60s to six and has bettered par by 22 strokes in his last two outings. For the second consecutive week, Zack Robinson finished as the runner-up to Moore, posting a final-round 71 for a 54-hole total of 208. Pablo Martin fired a final-round 69 to move from a tie for 21st place into a tie for 10th at 215, giving him his 10th top 10 in 11 starts this season. Trent and Tyler Leon finished in a group tied for 24th place at 219.
