April 06, 2007 | Cowboy Golf
STILLWATER, Okla.—Former Oklahoma State golfer Zack Robinson added to his impressive resumé as he has been named one of three recipients of the Excellence in Education Award.
“I would like to thank Tommy Thompson and everyone at Tulsa Sports Charities,” Robinson said. “Oklahoma State is extremely committed to its student-athletes and I have been fortunate to attend a university that is so supportive of its students.”
Robinson completed his career last season for OSU, helping the Cowboys to their 10th NCAA title. The Ft. Worth, Texas native was named the recipient of the 2006 Byron Nelson Award and the OSU Male Student-Athlete of the Year after finishing his career as a two-time first-team Academic All-American and the ESPN The Magazine Men's At-Large Academic All-American of the Year.
On the course, Robinson earned third-team All-America honors in 2005 and honorable mention plaudits in 2003. He was also a three-time all-region pick as well as an All-Big 12 selection in 2005.
Robinson will graduate with his master's degree in business administration this summer.
Formerly known as the Jim Thorpe Award, four individuals are selected each year from the state of Oklahoma. The recipients are chosen from the top student-athletes at Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Oral Roberts and Tulsa.
Past winners of the award from Oklahoma State are former men's basketball standouts Joey and Stephen Graham in 2005-06 and former wrestler Johny Thompson in 2004-2005.
The award was presented at a banquet in Sapulpa as part of the Tulsa Sports Charities, Inc. in February.
