STILLWATER, Okla. Â Oklahoma State's women's track and field coach Rene Sepulveda announced the signing of Teran Mixon, a prep standout from Colgate, Okla., to a National Letter of Intent today.
“We're extremely excited about her joining our program,” Sepulveda said. “She's a very talented athlete and with the credentials she brings shows that she has the potential of doing many great things at the collegiate level.
“Teran is also one of three 800-meter athletes we will sign in this class. She will be a major factor in the development of our middle distance group at OSU.”
A 12-time Oklahoma state champion at Colgate High School, Mixon claimed titles in 800-meter, mile run, and the 4x400 and 4x800 relays, while also being a two-time state runner-up in cross country.
As a junior, Mixon broke her mother's school record in the 400-meter run with a time of 57.00.
Sepulveda said that Mixon will focus on the 800-meter, 1,000-meter, distance medley relay and 4x400 relay.
The talented athlete was also a standout basketball player, where she averaged 12.3 points a game in her senior campaign, while also helping guide her team to the state semifinals in 2006 and 2007. She currently carries a 4.0 GPA and ranks first academically in her senior class.
“She is a fantastic all-around athlete. We were very fortunate that she is from Oklahoma because it gave us a better chance of signing this caliber of athlete.”
