Cowboys Resume Spring Drills With Monday Workout
April 02, 2007 | Cowboy Football
Oklahoma State's football squad took one step closer to the annual spring game as they completed their 10th practice Monday in Stillwater.
The Cowboys practiced for approximately two hours in full pads on the grass practice fields outside of Gallagher-Iba Arena. Temperatures hovered in the mid-80s with a cool breeze for most of the workout.
Head coach Mike Gundy felt the Cowboys had a little hang over from Friday's scrimmage.
"I thought it was a little sluggish really," Gundy said. "We ended up scrimmaging about 140 plays Friday and I think that effected them. We need to get better than that and that is part of the process we go through."
Over the weekend, the coaches had a chance to watch film of the scrimmage and several players stood out to Gundy.
"Bobby (Reid) probably played the best he has at quarterback," Gundy said. "(Keith) Toston also made some plays. We did have three turnovers, but Donovan (Woods) caused two of those. He is really good at getting in there and pulling the ball out. That is fairly common with offensive players who switch to defense."
One of the key position battles this spring is who will replace departed senior D¹Juan Woods and play opposite star wide receiver Adarius Bowman. Sophomore Artrell Woods has put forward his case with a strong spring thus far.
"He has made big plays in live scrimmages. When you make big plays there is a good chance you will get the opportunity to make more of them," Gundy said. "He is working his way into getting more reps at that position. He was a quality player for us last year in a very limited role because of D'Juan. He is certainly a guy who has made strides these past three weeks."
The Pokes will return to practice on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. Spring workouts will wrap up on April 14 with the annual spring game.
