White Tops Orange In Oklahoma State Spring Game

STILLWATER, Okla. — Quarterback Zac Robinson led the White team on two scoring drives in the final 74 seconds to lift his squad to a 35-27 win in Oklahoma State's annual Orange-White spring game Saturday.
An estimated crowd of 15,000 fans showed up at Boone Pickens Stadium and watched Robinson rack up over 200 all-purpose yards to lead his team to victory.
“I just want to start by saying how much I appreciate the alumni and ex-players that came and supported us, as well as the fans that showed up today,” OSU head coach Mike Gundy said. “It means a lot to us. It means a lot to the team. We had a great atmosphere out there today, and it's another step in the right direction for Oklahoma State football.
“I'm proud of the way the team competed. For the most part, I thought the teams executed very well. Just sitting there watching it, I was thinking to myself about how two years ago, we couldn't hardly get a play off on offense with the whole team out there, and we had two groups out there that were functioning and looked like they knew what they were doing.”
Robinson, a sophomore signal caller, completed 13-of-20 passes for 149 yards and two scores and also rushed for 55 yards on eight carries.
Trailing by seven, the White squad scored on a 28-yard pass from Robinson to Artrell Woods and added the two point conversion to take the lead with 1:14 remaining.
Then it was the defense's turn to come up big.
Clinging to a 28-27 lead, the White defense forced Orange quarterback Bobby Reid into three-straight incomplete passes, and on fourth down, redshirt freshman defensive end Shane Jarka sacked Reid and the Orange turned the ball over on downs.
On the ensuing play, Robinson hit Jeremy Broadway on a 25-yard touchdown pass to secure the win.
Robinson's favorite target through the air on Saturday was Woods, a sophomore who had four catches for a game-high 111 yards and two touchdowns.
Broadway, a sophomore who redshirted last season due to injury, hauled in four passes for 61 yards, including the long scoring grab with 35 ticks left on the clock.
Leading the White defense was linebacker Seb Clements, a junior who recorded a game-high nine tackles. Two of those stops were behind the line of scrimmage, and Clements also added a sack.
Sophomore linebacker Orie Lemon also had a big day for the White defense, racking up seven tackles, a sack and an interception.
For the Orange squad, Reid finished the contest 11-of-24 passing for 127 yards and an interception. The junior also rushed for a score.
All-American wide receiver Adarius Bowman had four catches for 73 yards and a score to lead the Orange squad, while sophomore tailback Keith Toston led all rushers in the game with 76 yards on 14 carries.
Sophomore linebacker Patrick Lavine led the Orange defense with seven tackles, while redshirt freshman Justin Gent had six stops and an interception which he returned 13 yards for a score.
The White team scored the first 13 points of the game before Reid scored on a nine-yard run to make the score 13-7. The Orange team cut the lead to 13-10 when Jason Ricks booted a 31-yard field goal just before halftime.
The Orange squad took its first lead of the game on a Gent's interception return early in the third quarter, and they pushed their lead to 20-13 on Ricks' 35-yard field goal midway through the period.
But the score was soon knotted at 20-20 as the White team executed the longest play from scrimmage of the contest when wide receiver Seth Newton connected with Woods on a 65-yard scoring strike.
Bowman put the Orange back on top with on a 10-yard scoring pass from Alex Cate with 6:10 left before Robinson's late heroics.
