Pablo Martin Named Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar

Oklahoma State golfer Pablo Martin has been named a 2007 Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar it was announced by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.
The 2006 national player of the year, Martin has competed in five events this season for the Cowboys. The Malaga, Spain native has also played in three professional events, making the cut at the PGA Tour's Mayakoba Golf Classic and participating in the European Tour's Madeira Island Open and the Estoril Open de Portugal. Martin made history at the Portuguese event, becoming the first amateur to ever win an event on the European Tour.
In 2006, he was named a second-team Academic All-American as well as an Academic All-Big 12 selection.
The magazine established the award, which was inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe, to honor undergraduate students of color who have achieved both athletically and academically as well as in the community.
To be included, students have to compete in an intercollegiate sport, maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 and be active on their campuses or in their community.
OSU's 17 Arthur Ashe recipients this year are the seventh-highest total nationally and were tops among Big 12 schools.
