Brown's Grand Slam Lifts Cowboys To Win
April 11, 2007 | Cowboy Baseball
Corey Brown's grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning propelled Oklahoma State to a 6-2 win over Arkansas State on Tuesday night at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
With the game tied at 2-2, Brown delivered the first pitch he saw from ASU reliever Nathan Gates over the wall in left-center field to put the Cowboys on top. The home run was Brown's team-leading 12th of the season and leaves the junior one shy of tying his career season high.
With the win, the 14th-ranked Cowboys improved to 24-8, while ASU dropped to 14-21.
OSU got on the scoreboard first with a pair of runs in the third. With two outs and the bases loaded, Rebel Ridling delivered a single into right field to give the Cowboys a 2-0 advantage.
The Indians tied the score in the sixth with their only runs of the contest. An RBI single by Brandon Eller provided ASU's first run before pinch hitter Jett Jones knotted the score with an RBI groundout.
Martin Beno picked up the win for OSU in relief of starter Joe Kent. Beno, a junior right hander, did not allow a hit while striking out three in 3.2 innings of work to earn his first-career win as a Cowboy.
Tyler Mach and Dusty Harvard each collected two hits for the Cowboys.
The two teams close out the series Wednesday at 3 p.m.
