Cowboys Cruise To Sixth Consecutive Win
March 07, 2007 | Cowboy Baseball
ARLINGTON, Texas - Oklahoma State won its sixth-straight game Tuesday night as the 16th-ranked Cowboys topped Texas-Arlington, 19-1, at Clay Gould Ballpark.
The Cowboys, wearing black 1980s throwback jerseys, looked like the high-scoring OSU teams of a few decades back as they tied a season high with the 19-run output to improve to 11-3 on the season. The 21 hits was a season high as four different Cowboys had at least three hits in the contest, with Tyler Mach's 4-for-5 effort leading the way.
For the 10th time this season, OSU got on the scoreboard in the first inning, and the Cowboys never looked back as coach Frank Anderson's club scored three or more runs in four innings.
The Cowboys got consecutive singles by Keanon Simon, Ty Wright and Corey Brown to lead off the game, and Mach followed with another single to plate Simon with OSU's first run. An RBI groundout by Matt Mangini made the score 2-0 and a balk gave the Pokes a 3-0 advantage. The final run of the frame came on an error by the Mavericks.
With a big cushion throughout, OSU sophomore Joe Kent improved to 2-0 on the mound this season. The southpaw struck out five and allowed just one run on seven hits in six innings of work.
A pair of Cowboys, Simon and Mach, increased their hitting streaks to seven games, while Matt Lopez has now hit safely in six-straight contests.
Ty Wright returned to the OSU lineup at designated hitter and was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while Corey Brown and Mangini also collected three hits apiece.
Mangini led the Cowboys with four RBIs, while Mach, Lopez and Kevin David each drove in three runs apiece.
