Cowgirls Crush UCO, 6-1
March 04, 2007 | Cowgirl Soccer
All-American Yolanda Odenyo and Siera Stawser both scored a pair of goals Saturday to lead Oklahoma State's soccer team to a throttling 6-1 victory over the University of Central Oklahoma in its only home game of the spring season at the OSU Soccer Complex.
“It was a good game considering how strong the winds were,” Cowgirl head coach Colin Carmichael said. “We played very well as there were a lot of positive things that came out the game.”
OSU (3-0) dominated UCO from the start of scrimmage, as Odenyo scored on a midfield kick in the opening eight seconds of the game. The native of
Strawser then scored her first of two goals as she pounded in a kick from 25 yards out.
The Cowgirls closed out the first half with a 5-0 lead after collecting another goal from Strawser and a put-back goal by Annika Niemeier, who found position in the box off a missed Strawser shot.
OSU's defense also had a solid performance as it held UCO to only three shots on goal, despite a goal given up by Cowgirl goalie, Erin Stigler, with 10 minutes left in the contest.
In the closing minutes of the game, Stephanie Lovely then scored the Cowgirls final goal off a left-footed kick into the wind to make the score 6-1.
“It was a great left-footed kick by (Stephanie) Lovely,” Carmichael said. “She definitely deserved the goal because she is a really hard worker.”
