Cowboys Brave The Elements For Friday Football Scrimmage
March 30, 2007 | Cowboy Football
The Oklahoma State football team went through a lengthy and soggy scrimmage Friday afternoon at Boone Pickens Stadium.
The workout was moved up to 2:30 p.m. in an effort to avoid the wet weather pattern, and that move was successful, for a while. The Cowboys got in about 50 plays before heavy rain and lightning forced a “halftime”.
Following a delay of approximately one hour, OSU completed another 80 snaps, putting the wraps on about 130 plays that featured various combinations of players, formations and situations. Virtually every player in uniform saw extensive playing time during the course of the workout.
“We look at a lot of things in the spring,” said offensive coordinator Larry Fedora. “In a way we set ourselves up to fail because we do a lot, but it gives us a great chance to see a lot of things and a lot players.”
The Cowboys worked on various situations with the first units squaring off for more than one session. A rushing touchdown by quarterback Bobby Reid, a 46-yard touchdown pass from Zac Robinson to Artrell Woods and a 37-yard pass from Reid to Woods provided the offensive highlights for the Cowboys.
“Because of the weather, we had to run the ball a little more on offense, which made it a tougher practice for the kids,” said associate head coach Joe DeForest, who handled the post-practice media session for head coach Mike Gundy, who preserved a hoarse voice. “I think our kids did a great job of fighting through some adverse conditions.”
The Cowboys will take the weekend off before beginning the final two weeks of spring practice on Monday.
