Cowboys Complete Two-Game Sweep Of Western Illinois
March 14, 2007 | Cowboy Baseball
STILLWATER, Okla. - Corey Brown and Tyler Mach each homered, and four Oklahoma State pitchers combined for a shutout as the 14th-ranked Cowboys topped Western Illinois, 8-0, Wednesday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
OSU (14-4) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Brown crushed his team-leading seventh home run over the center field wall in the bottom of the first inning, a shot that gave the Cowboys a 2-0 lead.
That was plenty of support for sophomore Joe Kent, who won his third-straight mid-week start to improve to 3-0 on the season. The southpaw worked six innings and allowed just two hits while striking out six.
The Cowboys tallied their third run of the game in the third inning on an RBI single by Ty Wright. In the fourth, Matt Lopez scored on a wild pitch before Mach drove in a run with a single to make the score 5-0.
OSU plated its final three runs in the sixth as Mach delivered his fifth homer of the season, a three-run blast to center field.
Robbie Weinhardt, Josh Fritsche and Justin Friend each worked an inning on the mound to help seal the shutout for OSU. It was the second shutout of the season for the Cowboys.
Mach finished the contest 2-for-4 with four RBIs, while Brown's homer helped him extend his hitting streak to a season-high eight games.
OSU returns to action Friday when the Cowboys open a four-game series against Hartford at Reynolds Stadium. Friday's contest is set for a 6:30 p.m. start, with a Saturday double header beginning a 1 p.m. Sunday's finale is scheduled for 11 a.m.
