Cowboys Close Out Season Against Bedlam Rival Oklahoma

Oklahoma State lost a tight dual to second-ranked Missouri, 17-16, inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. The two teams each won five matches, but missouri won the dual by having two major decisions to just one for OSU. With the dual tied at 13, Max Askren recorded a major decision to put the Tigers up by four heading into the heavyweight match. Jared Rosholt could only manage a decision and Missouri held on for a one-point win. The Cowboys had jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the dual after Nathan Morgan recorded his major decision. Missouri got back into the dual with consecutive victories at 149 and 157. Johny Hendricks gave the Pokes a six-point lead with a decision over Matt Pell, but the Tigers tied it up with decisions at the next two weights.
Scouting the Sooners
Oklahoma has been banged up of late wrestling without as many as five starters. The Sooners are starting to get their linep bac, but are still without top-ranked Sam Hazewinkel at 125 and 133-pounder Joe Comparin. OU still poses a challenge for any team with five wrestlers ranked in the lates individual polls, not counting Hazewinkel. Matt Storniolo is ranked third at 149, but was recently upset by Missouri's Josh Wagner for his first loss of the season. Joel Flaggert is ranked sixth at 197, one of the deepest weight classes in the country. OU is tough from 149-174. After Storniolo the Sooners have No. 15 Will Rowe, No. 17 Shane Seibert and No. 13 Josh Weitzel. The foursome is a combined 72-12 on the season.
Last Time Versus Oklahoma
Oklahoma State needed a victory from Jared Rosholt at heavyweight to squeak out a two-point victory against Oklahoma in Norman. The two teams each split five matches, but the Cowboys got major decisions from Coleman Scott and Nathan Morgan to pull out the dual. OU had a chance for major decisions at three different weight classes, but the Cowboys did what they needed to do to limit it to a decision.
Hendricks Looking to Join Exclusive Club
Johny Hendricks will head to the Palace in Auburn Hills with an opportunity to become just the fifth wrestler in school history to become a four-time All-American and a three-time national champion. Hendricks finished fifth as a redshirt freshman in 2004 at 157 pounds. He then won the next two titles while wrestling at 165. During his two championship seasons and so far this season, Hendricks has compiled an 83-5 record. There have previously been 10 four-time All-Americans and 15 three-time national champions. Only five guys have done both with Jake Rosholt joining the club last season.
Cowboys not Accustomed to Losing OSU's five losses is the most it has had since the Cowboys went 12-5-1 during the 1999-2000 campaign, and it marks just the fifth time in school history the Cowboys have lost as many as four duals in a season. OSU lost just four duals over the last four seasons combined. Oklahoma State still boasts an all-time record of 941-98-20.
