Cowgirl Soccer Inks Four to National Letter of Intent

Katie Richardson, Allyson Leggett, Whitney Wernimont and Kaitlyn Gustaves all pledged their services to the Cowgirls.
“We are very excited about the 2007 class at Oklahoma State,” Carmichael said. “We were able to fill needs for the upcoming season. All four players should compete for playing time immediately. This talented class should allow us to build on our recent success.”
Richardson and Leggett are both members of the Hurricane FC ‘89 coached by Justin Elkington. The team is seven-time state champions and a Region III finalist in 2004 and 2005. Current Cowgirl Siera Strawser was a member of this team.
Richardson is a four-year starter at Broken Arrow High School where she led the Tigers to the state quarterfinals each of the last three years.
“Katie is a very explosive forward who will cause problems for defenses in the Big 12,” Carmichael said.
Leggett is a three-year starter for Jenks High School. She helped lead the Trojans to a state championship in 2006. Both Richardson and Legget are members of the Oklahoma Olympic Development Program.
“Allyson is an intelligent defender who has a mentality to compete at the highest level.”
Wernimont hails from Rowlett, Texas where she is a starting defender for the prestigious Dallas Texans ‘89 Red. The Texans ‘89 Red were regional champions in 2004 and 2006, and advanced all the way to the national finals. Wernimont was the District Player of the Year in 2005 for Rowlett High School.
“Whitney is a technically gifted defender who attacks very well from the back.”
Gustaves is a goalkeeper from Long Beach, Calif. She plays for Wilson High School where she was named All-CIF third team. She was first team all-league, Defensive MVP and was named the Goalkeeper of the Year in 2006. Gustaves plays club for CRSC Infinity ‘88.
“Kaitlyn is an extremely athletic goalkeeper with unlimited potential.”
