OSU Football Begins Spring Drills On Monday
February 28, 2007 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER - The Oklahoma State football team will begin its third season under head coach Mike Gundy Monday afternoon with the first of 15 spring practices.
The Cowboys are coming off of a 7-6 season that ended with a win over Alabama in the PetroSun Independence Bowl. OSU is one of just three Big 12 schools coming off of a bowl victory. OSU's 2006 schedule ended the year as the nation's 20th most difficult, based on opponents' winning percentage.
“We have had a good off season,” Gundy said. “I think the players and the staff are ready to get spring started.”
OSU returns 18 starters from 2006, including eight starters from an offensive unit that finished No. 16 nationally in total offense and No. 7 in scoring (35.2 points per game). Among that group is Big 12 offensive newcomer of the year Adarius Bowman, quarterback Bobby Reid and running backs Dantrell Savage and Keith Toston. OSU returns three full-time starters and one part-time starter in the offensive line and blossoming star Brandon Pettigrew at tight end.
The defense welcomes back seven starters, including three players (linebacker Patrick Lavine, linebacker Chris Collins and safety Andre Sexton), who were named Freshman All-Americans in 2007. The defense will be under the direction of first-year coordinator Tim Beckman.
The special teams are also experienced with placekicker Jason Ricks, All-America punter Matt Fodge and All-America return specialist Perrish Cox back in the fold.
Spring workouts are open and are scheduled to begin at approximately 3:15 p.m. each day. The spring game will culminate the drills on April 14th. Drills begin Monday and are scheduled on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week leading up to the spring game on April 14. The week of March 19-23 there will be no practice due to spring break.

March 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 26, 28, 30
