February 22, 2007 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
The Cowgirls, who finished 10th at last year's conference meet, will look to better that performance and qualify thier first athlete for the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., March 9-10.
Freshman Tone Hjalmarsen will lead OSU in the 3,000-meter run as she holds a season best time of 9:54.
Oklahoma State will then look to place its distance medley relay team, which consists of junior Eva Tomankova, sophomores Nina Andersson and Tihana Sarac and freshman Hanna Holst.
Tomankova, who finished seventh in the 1,000-meter run at last year's championships, will look to score for OSU for the second consecutive year.
In the mile run, the Cowgirls will be represented by Andersson and Holst, as the duo has the potential of scoring in the event. Andersson will look to improve upon her third-place finish at last year's championships, where she led the first three laps before fading to finish third.
Junior Deleanor Kirkpatrick will be the lone competitor for OSU in the weight throw, while junior LaKendra Greathouse and sophomore Merritt Dietz will see action in the shot put.
OSU will also look for solid outings from senior Zivile Siksnelyte and sophomore Baiba Blumbaha in the triple jump and long jump. Siksnelyte is coming off a personal best performance in the long jump at the Sooner Indoor, where she jumped a distance of 19-02.75 (5.86 meters).
Iowa State will host the two-day championships with the women's weight throw kicking things off Friday at 2:00 p.m.
